Political Candidates

Campaign Strategy 101 is a course that gives instruction in creating and implementing campaign strategies at the local, state and federal levels. Topics covered include campaign platforms, campaign messages, candidate analysis, opponent analysis, base building, fundraising, campaign finance regulations, campaign field work, campaign budgets and campaign staff. (Course for candidates, political consultants and issue advocates)

Estrategias de Campañas 101 cubre la creación y la implementación de estrategias de campaña a nivel local, estatal y federal. Los temas cubiertos incluyen plataformas de campaña, mensajes de la campaña, análisis del candidato, análisis del contrincante, construcción de la base, recaudación de fondos, los reglamentos de financiamiento de campaña, el trabajo de campo de la campaña, los presupuestos de campaña y equipo de campaña.(El curso es para candidatos, consultantes políticos, y para aquellos que abogan por causas)

Campaign Finance 101 this course for candidates covers creating a campaign finance plan, setting fundraising goals, donor identification/cultivation/solicitation, campaign finance regulations and hiring fundraising staff.

Candidate Campaign Preparation is a course for women actively planning to run for office. This course gives candidate an overview of the process along with a list of steps to take to get prepared for the campaign process including network building, increasing name recognition and race assessment.

Environmental Policy 101 is a course on the history of environmental legislation, environmental legislation reform and proposed federal regulations along with an overview of Environmental Protection Agency.

Healthcare Policy 101 is a course giving an overview of The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the reconciliation bill. This course also includes a review of new judicial challenges to the act.

Judicial Races is a course that addresses the specific needs of a candidate running for judicial office. This course covers campaign strategy, finance, media skills, public speaking/debating and campaign staffing.

Introduction to Public Service gives a candidate an overview of the process of running for office along with a list of steps to take to get prepared for the campaign process. This instruction includes network building, resource assessment, increasing name recognition and race assessment. For women interested in civic engagement this course first defines civic engagement then expands on the ways a woman may take an active role in leadership in her community. This course is designed for women planning to run for office or who want to become engaged leaders in their communities.

Leveraging a Loss is a course for women that have run for office and lost. The time, money and other resources invested in a political campaign by a candidate are not lost when an election is lost. This course instructs a candidate on how to leverage the base of support and community visibility she has gained to launch her next endeavor or next run for office.

Lobbying 101 is a course that begins with an overview of the history of lobbying in the United States. The course then goes on to identify the types of lobbyists and an explanation of federal laws governing the profession of lobbying.

Media Skills 101 is a course that gives instruction on how to manage communications with the media and how to craft responses to media coverage. The course will also cover best practices for candidate interviews including how to address sexist and/or racist media coverage. Media Skills 101 is ideal for political candidates, campaign staff and advocates.

Political Appointments 101 is a course for women with an interest in being appointed to a political office, board or commission. This course gives an overview of the typical appointment process and instruction on creating a personal strategy to pursue an appointment.

Political Fundraising Fundamentals focuses on the fundamental fundraising skills needed to successfully raise money for political campaigns, issue campaigns or political organizations. This course covers creating a campaign finance plan, setting fundraising goals, donor identification/cultivation/solicitation, hiring fundraising staff and campaign finance regulations.

Fundametos de Racaudación Política es un curso de una hora que se centra en las destrezas fundamentales de recaudación de fondos necesarios para campañas políticas, campañas de abogacía por causas, u organizaciones políticas. Public Speaking and Debating 101 is a course for women are running for office. This course offers instruction on public speaking techniques, debating techniques, debate preparation and candidate presentation.

Running for Office Candidate Training is a comprehensive course for women planning to run for public office and is ideal for women interested in pursuing a career as a campaign manager. The course covers campaign messaging, campaign finance, campaign field strategy, course for women delivering instruction on all aspects of running for elected office at the local or state level in the legislative, judicial or executive branches of government.

Securities Policy 101 is a course on securities history, securities regulation, reform and proposed federal legislation.

Social Media Skills begins with the overview of social media platforms used most often in the political sector and how each platform is being leveraged in politics. The course then goes on to give instruction in creating and implementing social media strategies for political campaigns, issue campaigns and political or advocacy organizations.

Transportation Policy 101 is a course on federal transportation regulation history, an overview of significant transportation legislation and proposed legislation.

Advocacy for Individuals and Organizations

Advocacy 101 is a course that begins with an overview of the policy-making process at the local and state legislative levels of government. The course then covers the basic forms of advocacy, messaging, base building, effective communications and creating issue campaigns. (Fundraising for Advocates is the companion course for Advocacy 101.)

Fundraising for Advocates is a companion course to our Advocacy 101 course. This course gives instruction on fundraising for advocacy organizations, issue campaigns and non-profit service organizations. The topics covered include fundraising best practices, donor identification and cultivation, methods of donor solicitation, grant research and grant writing.

Political Careers for Professionals

Careers in Politics Series (PR/Communications Consultants, Lobbyists, Political Fundraisers, Social Media Consultants)
This series of courses is specifically designed for women pursuing careers in politics. The course curricula offer instruction in the respective specialties along with guidance on finding professional opportunities in politics.

Careers in Politics: Communications and PR Consultants is a course that gives instruction on creating and implementing a public relations or communications strategy for a political candidate campaign, issue campaign or advocacy organization.

Careers in Politics: Political Fundraisers begins with an overview of professional political fundraising career opportunities and guidance on securing a position as a political fundraiser. The course then provides instruction on fundamental fundraising techniques for political campaigns, political organizations or issue campaigns.

Careers in Politics: Lobbyists includes an overview of types of lobbying, state & federal laws regulating lobbying, professional opportunities and guidance on securing a position as a lobbyist.

Careers in Politics: Resume Reboot guides participants through properly organizing their current resumes for a transition to a career in the political sector. Participants are provided with a resume template to highlight marketable professional skills and relevant professional experience. This course is limited to 3 participants.

Careers in Politics: Social Media Consultants begins with the overview of social media platforms used most often in the political sector and how each platform is being leveraged in politics. The course then goes on to give instruction in creating and implementing social media strategies for political campaigns, issue campaigns and political or advocacy organizations.

Campaign Management 101 defines the role and responsibilities of a campaign manager, building a campaign infrastructure, campaign laws/compliance, campaign office operations and personnel management.

Campaign Management 102 gives instruction on campaign strategy, political fundraising, political communications, creating a social media strategy, marketing, public relations/crisis management and campaign field strategy.

Exploring Careers in Politics explores the number of fulfilling and lucrative professional opportunities for women in the political sector. The course concludes with instruction on making the transition into politics.

Cancellations and Rescheduling
When PIW cancels a course or event for which you have registered, you may transfer registration to another course or receive a full refund.
When PIW reschedules a course or event for which you have registered, you may transfer registration to another course.

Transferring a Course Registration
You may transfer a course registration once. The course to which you are transferring must have an equivalent course fee or you may pay the difference in the fee.

Refund Policy
Course fees are non-refundable with the exception of courses or events that are cancelled. Registrants may transfer to another course with a course fee that is of equal or lesser value.
